HOW CNC TURNING WORKS
CNC turning rotates the workpiece at high speed while a stationary cutting tool removes material to create cylindrical shapes — the reverse setup from milling, where the tool spins and the part stays fixed. Multi-axis lathes with live tooling add a further step: the cutting tool itself can rotate and move independently, letting the machine drill, mill, and cut off-center features without moving the part to a second machine. That combination of spindle precision and live tooling is what allows tight, repeatable tolerances on diameters, threads, and angular features — all in a single setup.
