HOW SWISS CNC TURNING WORKS
Unlike a conventional lathe, a Swiss machine holds the workpiece in a sliding headstock that feeds material through a guide bushing positioned immediately next to the cutting tool. That guide bushing supports the material right at the point of cutting, virtually eliminating the deflection and vibration that occur when machining small, thin, or long parts. The result is exceptional stability throughout the cut — which is what allows Swiss turning to hold tolerances as tight as ±0.0002" and complete multiple operations (turning, drilling, milling) in a single setup, without repositioning the part.
